Preston Men’s Group

We are a small group of christian men (mainly Catholic) and have been meeting, as a faith sharing group for nearly 20 years.

The group goes by the name of Preston Men’s group and meets on the first Saturday of the month from 8.30 for a drink and toast etc with the aim of making a start at 09:00 and finishing by 10.30

The group exists to support men on their journey of faith and as well as reflecting on scripture we have input tailored to topics from a men’s perspective.

The meetings are very informal and comprises two main sections – a reflection and sharing on a piece of scripture from the Gospels (we use the Common Lectionary and the reading for the upcoming Sunday) followed by an input and discussion/sharing on a topic relevant to Men’s spirituality. We then finish with some prayers of thanksgiving and petition.

The input for the sessions from September 2018 to January 2019 inclusive will be to look at the four Male Archetypes – known as King, Warrior, Wise Man (or Magician) and Lover.

We will look at these Jungian ‘energies’ from a Christian perspective, and especially how they are exhibited in Jesus’ earthly life as a model for our own masculinity.

We will reflect on some of the inner movements and motivations in our lives, that have led to particular decisions and actions, and explore the effects of these Archetypes in our own lives.

Starting in Feb 2019 we will start a new topic area.  During the period February to May 2019 inclusive we will watch 20 minute segments of the DVD – “Pope Francis – A Man of his word” as a stimulus to conversation and personal sharing.

The DVD – Pope Francis – A Man of His Word is a rare co-production with the Vatican. Pope Francis’ ideas and his message are central to this documentary, which sets out to present his work of reform and his answers to today’s global questions about death, social justice, immigration, ecology, wealth inequality, materialism, and the role of the family.

The group is led by Greg McCrave.  You do not need to book or contact Greg beforehand to take part – just come along.  However, if you want more information then you can contact Greg by using the form below.

We ask for a donation of £3 per session.
