The Jesuits of Preston are delighted to host a talk by Fr Xavier Jeyaraj SJ, President for Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES) in Rome.
The talk will relate to our duty to care for God’s creation. Fr Xavier poses a question for us “Is Leadership too important to be left to Leaders?
Fr Xavier, originally from the Calcutta Province, India, has spent much of his life dedicated to working for the poor. He led the Udayani Social Action Forum, a social centre in Calcutta before also working as secretary of social action in the South Asian Conference and completing a PhD in Social Sciences.
He moved to Rome in 2012 and took over the role of President for SJES in June of 2017. The SJES assists Fr General in delivering the mission of the Society by promoting justice and reconciliation with creation, both at the level of the six Jesuit Conferences and Provinces within the Society of Jesus.
Jesuit Missions Director Paul Chitnis says,“I have invited Fr Xavier to speak to us about Care of Creation and leadership from an Ignatian perspective. I hope that he will be able to lead us on how to be ‘men and women for others’ and how we can take action using the themes from Evangelii Gaudium and Laudato Si.”
Doors open from 1:00pm with the talk starting at 1.30pm finishing at about 3:00pm after a question and answer session with Fr Xavier. There will be an opportunity for tea and coffee and chat afterwards.
If you can’t make the afternoon session then perhaps you might like to know that Fr Xavier will be speaking on the same theme in the evening at the Xaverian Mission Spirituality Centre 7.30pm – 9:00pm This may better suit those who may be working.
