Towards a Spirituality of Dementia
Jan 31 4:00 pm – Feb 2 4:00 pm
Towards a Spirituality of Dementia @ St Beuno's

This weekend is primarily for those caring for people living with dementia, but would also suit anyone with an interest in dementia. It is led by Dr John Hindle, Mrs Rose McCrave and Dr Catherine Hindle.

Dementia is a common condition with consequences for the individual, their family, friends and society. It also raises profound spiritual questions about what it means to be a ‘person’, God and faith. The weekend will provide a mix of input sessions, prayer and opportunities for mutual exploration, discussion and sharing of experiences. This is not a silent or individually guided weekend, but there will be time for silence, reflection and rest.

John is a Geriatrician with many years’ experience in the management of neurological problems of older people and of dementia, and is very interested in the spirituality of dementia. Rose is a longstanding spiritual director and retreat giver at St Beuno’s. She is passionate about sharing the joys and sorrows of caring for her mother who is living with dementia and depression. Catherine is a part-time GP and spiritual director at St Beuno’s. She too has many years’ experience of caring for those living with dementia and their families.

Preston Men’s Group
Feb 1 8:30 am – 10:30 am

The group is very informal and generally meets on the first Saturday of the month from 8.30 ready for a start at 09:00 after a drink and some toast etc. We normally aim to finish about 10.30

The meeting comprises two main sections – a reflection and sharing on a piece of scripture from the Gospels (we use the Common Lectionary and the reading for the upcoming Sunday) followed by an input and discussion/sharing on a topic relevant to Men’s spirituality. At present we are working are way through a book called ’52 Men of the Bible’ by Carl Beech

We use this book to dig deeper into some of the men in the Bible. From Adam to Jesus, by way of prominent figures such as Samson and Paul, and shining a light on lesser known characters such as Bezalel and Achan, and explore these men and how their example can affect our lives of faith. We look at Who were they? What would they be like to meet here and now? and How can we relate to them and learn from them?

We then finish with some prayers of thanksgiving and petition.
You do not need to book for these sessions. Just come along and take part.
